Full Fitted Winter Covers
A full fitted winter cover makes a good investment in keeping your boat looking like new. It protects your boat from a winter of rain, sleet, and snow. One of the biggest problems in a Maryland winter is the variations in temps. We get snows, then warming trends, then freezing with rains mixed in. What happens is the drains in your cockpit and decks will thaw then freeze again creating a plug. We then get a day or two of temperatures just warm enough to rain. This rain can fill the cockpit with water and the drains are still frozen so the cockpit cannot drain. This can happen over several weeks and many gallons of water are retained filling the cockpit with water. Another problem is the pollution and acid rains that can leave a gray film on the exposed surfaces of the boat that can sometimes be almost impossible to remove. A winter cover that is taken care of properly can last many years, I personally have one for my 28 foot sail boat that is still in good shape after 15 years of use. It can be a better investment than shrink wrap which you have to replace every year.
